NOW TO MOTHER'S DAY AT THE PATZICIA SCHOOL
All expenses were paid by Guatemalans:  Donations from the children, the fathers, and from the Municipal Government
The Foundation has sponsored and supported this school since 1982 and helped make possible thousands of graduates who have gone on to be successful and productive Guatemalans.
The mothers and their children begin arriving to be celebrated.
This young mother has a future student on her back--the Mayan-Cakchiquel way.
The oldest of the mothers, this fine woman has had several generations study at the school
The mothers have arrived and are ready for the program organized by our staff of teachers.
The gifts for the mothers were provided by the mayor and Municipal Government.
One of the teachers gives the welcome.

The Kindergarten children make the first presentation honoring their mothers.

Next a presentation is made by the First Graders.

Some of the older girls dance the typical dance "The Son"
They are then joined by a group of boys offering some loving poetry for their mothers.
This fine future student is taking in the show and imaging what his participation will one day be.
The staff then gets the mothers involved in somne friendly competitions.

The time for gifts arrives and one of the winners of a competition gets the first gift.

A couple of happy mothers and their children sit together.  For those who know the past history of Patzicia, when the non-Indians, or Ladinos (the mother on the left), and the Cakchiquel Indians (as the mother on the right) hated each other and had bloody conflicts,  this is an incredible scene with wonderful significance.  The Foundation School there is famous for helping to bring together the ethnic and religious groups--all as BROTHERS and SISTERS.
Two of our students presented their widowed mother with her gift.  About half of the students are from extremely needed families and given a full scholarship to attend the school
