CHRISTMAS REPORT--ACCOMPLISHMENTS--WE FAILED DON MAXIMO

Click below for last post:

CHRISTMAS REPORT
THE PLAN WAS FOUR-FOLD:
1.  The Kitchen at the Santa Elena School.....DONE!

2.  The Anual Christmas Project for the Poor in Sta. Cruz..75% done
A pictorial report will be our first promotion for 2016.

3.  A wheelchair...hopefully "electric," for don Maximo in the  Chuluc Village:
He was the village leader  back in 1986 who pushed for the building of the "Ariel & Ines Andersen" school, and has since dedicated his life to his people.  He's deserving of our help and needs us now...as he can't walk anymore.
We failed to have sufficient funds for Christmas.....HOW ABOUT FOR NEW YEARS or soon thereafter?

4.  We now need to quickly accumulate funds to get the Chuluc School started in January, and for Mario's scholarship for his last year of Law School....during which he will continue as our Regional Director as a volunteer in the Patzicia area.
In case you're new, Mario, has been a volunteer for the Foundation in the Patzicia area now going on 17 years.  In turn we have helped him with his education, now with one year to go during which he has to put full time into his studies.  We have therefore promised to give him a full scholarship as a just reward for all he has done for the Foundation, and his people.

We are deeply grateful for all of you who were able to donate in December.
For those who couldn't, try your best in what remains of the month, and then in January....PLEASE!

A KITCHEN FOR THE SANTA ELENA SCHOOL....Under construction
NEED A LITTLE MORE HELP TO FINISH
IN PROGRESS scroll down to see new additions
These 100 children need our help.....
The daily Nutrition Program, called in Guatemala "La Refaccion," has been found to be extremely helpful for the health of the children and to have them more mentally alert to learn.

The mothers have been doing their best....under difficult circumstance as we see below.
The construction of their kitchen is underway as we speak....please help us finish it.

HOW IT STARTED
Federico, our Regional Director, had a series of meetings with the
community, proposing the project that would be a two room unit:
Kitchen and storeroom.
He explained that for some reason the Municipality wouldn't be helping, so it was to be a partnership between the Foundation, providing materials and a couple of skilled masons, and the community providing volunteer labor...the women agreeing to prepare and provide food for all the workers.
In the lower picture, we see Federico making the proposal to the community and the mothers and fathers accepting the project.

The Foundation sent $2,660 to purchase the materials and get the work underway as seen below, with volunteers from the community unloading and getting the work started.
We can see again the construction method to protect from earthquakes, with construction steel rising from the foundation, the gap to be filled in with cement, and tied to a cement/steel beam around the perimeter and tied to the roof.
Here is the progress of the project up to October 28th, that will soon  be nearly ready to begin building the roof.
What we need now is about $1,000 to purchase the  remainder of the roof materials, including the wood preservative to keep it from rotting and being  eaten by termites, plus doors, windows and the wood stove.

UPDATE: November 18, 2015
The walls are up, and roof support structure in place.

Galvanized tin roofing material being unloaded.

"pila" being unloaded and hauled to area where, along with another one, a facility will be available to wash hands, dishes, mops, etc.

You will notice that the size is much more than needed for a "kitchen," as the decision was to also make it large enough to function as a dinning room...for about 60 people.

This new view shows the rugged terrain where the school is located, and also gives us perspective as to its size.

This view shows the now enlarged school including the director's office located on the right.

The sanitary facilities are in front of the school we are seeing here.  As it worked out we didn't have enough money to do the reconditioning of the installation, nor the septic tank system we had hoped to construct.  Minor repairs were done so the system will work, but the complete job will have to be put on our schedule for 2016.  The same with the  roof for the Pre-School Classroom.  Minor emergency repairs were done, with the complete job pending for 2016.

SO CRITICAL WORK REMAINS FOR 2016:
1.  The re-conditioning of the toilet facilities and drainage...
2.  We need to build a septic tank for sewage from toilets and washing "pilas,"
3.  Another "pila" is needed to add to the old one, and the one new one seen above;
4.  The Pre-School classroom roof, next to the new kitchen, is worn out and leaking, needing to be replaced.

We have provided $4,207 for the the project.

Formal plans and a busdget will be submitted soon for the remaining work, and all will be advised what we can still do to finish this job.

PLEASE HELP ALL YOU CAN SO WE  WILL HAVE A FUND READY TO FINISHED THE PROJECT IN2016!

WHAT IS URGENTLY NEEDED RIGHT NOW IS MONEY FOR THE ANNUAL CHRISTMAS PROJECT IN SANTA CRUZ FOR THE POOREST OF THE POOR
We are talking about the elderly, crippled, widows with children, like you see above, and others.  They each receive something that they really need, like blankets  you see above and simple toys for the children.  Otherwise these are people who will receive NOTHING for Christmas.  PLEASE HELP ALL YOU CAN.
